In response to the humanitarian appeal issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Gaza, the representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) there has provided MoH hospitals with first batch of medicines and medical consumables.
Aimed at helping the hospitals to continue providing health services for the wounded, the QR729,000 worth supplies form part of emergency intervention by QRCS to relieve those affected by the war on Gaza.
The Assistant General Manager of Pharmacy at MoH, Dr. Zikri Abu Qamar, said that the Ministry warehouses had 48 percent shortage in medicines and 28 percent shortage in medical consumables, a day before the war.
“The recent support from QRCS covers about 10 percent of our needs. I call on international organizations and donors to secure more medical aid in order to reduce the current $3million shortage, as large numbers of injuries are received by hospitals every day.
A team from QRCS office in Gaza visited Palestine Red Crescent Society’s Al Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis to monitor the provision of medical care and talk to the injured.
QRCS already provided two operating rooms with medical equipment at Al Amal Hospital. Medicines, medical equipment, and supplies are being delivered to the hospital, to ensure continuity of services. Also, QRCS plans to install solar panels at the hospital to deal with fuel shortage in the blockade.
As per reports, Al Amal Hospital has been providing emergency health care for nearly 500 injured people since 7th October 2023, and this support forms part of $1m intervention by QRCS announced few days ago, to provide critically needed medicines, ambulance, medical supplies, vehicles, food and non-food items (NFIs).
